Round 8 of the South Coast Group 7 Rugby League competition continued on Saturday, with six games played at Chittick Oval. The Kiama Junior Knights Under 10-2s turned up to play the Warilla Gorillas with conviction and purpose, despite the testing winds and wintery conditions. The team Captain, Cruz Jones, fired the team up with his pre-match inspirational talk in the sheds. From the very first play, the Junior Knights showed that they were there to play footy. Troy Kallenbach unleashed and continued his strong runs making an immediate impact. Reed 'Dangerman' Palmer continued with his hard-hitting no-nonsense style, taking on up to four players each run he made and reciprocating the effort in defence. Meanwhile in the middle of the field, Dax Cairncross, proved too strong for Warilla with his elusive darts from dummy half to set up for the backs. Jordie continued with his zipping darts to torment the Gorillas. Our standout performers for the week were Macson Smith and Caleb Bradbury. Macson pulled off some solid hits and mixed it up with the Gorillas at times surprising himself. Caleb stepped up to the plate like a good winger to take the heat off the tired forwards, landing himself a try for his efforts. The Junior Knights kicking game was on point with a solid kick by Miller Siasat at first receiver and chase by Aiden Gibson – something they have been working on at training. Each time they went to the boot, Aiden was there to recover but on several occasions unlucky not to score. The young Knights were out-numbered but ccrtainly not out muscled, taking out the match 30 - 24. Try scorers for the Junior Knights were Aiden Gibson, Dax Cairncross , Caleb Bradbury, Miller Siasat (4), with one conversion by Cruz Jones. Well done boys! The Junior Knights are holding their annual fundraising event, Casino Night, on Saturday 30 June.
