It was another action packed weekend for the Kiama Junior Knights, with round six of the South Coast Group 7 competition.
Nine games took place at Chittick Oval, with the Kiama 11’2s game against Sussex Inlet one of the highlights of the day.
In the first half, Sussex Inlet seemed to have the upper hand, scoring two tries. Despite the Knights’ strong defence, the two state sprinters in the Sussex side were just too quick!
The Knights’ came out much stronger in the second half and at one point were leading by six points, thanks to standout performances from Jed O’Connor and Zye Gulfius.
Despite strong defence from the Knights, Sussex Inlet scored to level it at 22-all. Then with only moments to go the Sussex team scored and converted the try, snatching the win as the full time siren sounded.
According to Coach, Mark Wingrove: “Our boys love getting out on the field each week, playing the game and spending time with some good friends who they have made in the team.”
“Congratulations to Jed O’Connor who was awarded ‘Knight of the Week’ following his outstanding game, and special thanks to Mia, Liam, Dan and Rob for helping the side out each week,” said Mark.
On Sunday, the Under 6s teams represented the Club on Sunday at the Kiama Senior Knights’ home game against the Gerringong Lions.
The players had an exciting afternoon, presenting jerseys to the First Grade team, singing the Club’s victory song in the sheds with the Reserve Grade team, and then walking the First Grade players onto the field.
Thanks to the Senior Knights for giving the boys a sneak peak into senior footy!
